Nine Funerals Of The Citizen King

This is the first of the Canterbury compilations. Canterbury Scene caught my ear at the first listenings to Caravan, Khan, Gong and Egg. It was quite difficult sometimes (actually it still is), but nevertheless it's been one of my favourite sub-genres of progressive rock for some time. If I was to describe it briefly, I'd say it's the most intelligent of all music styles I know.

Tracks:

  1. Egg - A Visit To Newport Hospital (The Polite Force 1970) 8:28
  2. Caravan - Winter Wine (In The Land Of Grey And Pink 1971) 7:35
  3. Khan - Stargazers (Space Shanty 1972) 5:32
  4. Gong - I Never Glid Before (Radio Gnome Invisible Part 2: Angel's Egg 1973) 5:37
  5. Matching Mole - Signed Curtain (Matching Mole 1972) 3:35
  6. Soft Machine - Hibou, Anemone And Bear (Volume Two 1968) 5:59
  7. Hatfield And The North - Fitter Stoke Has a Bath (The Rotters Club 1975) 6:25
  8. Henry Cow - Nine Funerals of the Citizen King (Leg End 1973) 5:26
  9. Steve Hillage - The Salmon Song (Fish RisingI 1975) 8:32
  10. National Health - Clocks And Clouds (Missing Pieces 1973) 6:47
